This piece is inspired by a very specific memory I have of looking out my bedroom window at my childhood home at night during a full moon. I don't know what gave me the idea but when I looked out, I saw a tree with no leaves and many unsettling and creepy branches. I imagined a witch stalking around the trees, bathed in the moonlight and gathering sticks for a fire to heat her cauldron. As she bent down to pick up a large twig, she seemingly sensed my gaze because she looked directly at me, locking eyes. She smiled and pushed a finger to her lips in a "shhh" motion, then turned and stalked into the woods. Of course, this was a product of my imagination, but it was unsettling and the image has remained with me for all these years. I wonder if the view from my old room is the same, and if anyone else has seen the witch in the woods.
